SPIRIT TRACKS IMPRESSIONS

Wed Nov 11, 2009, 4:31 PM
I thought that if I used caps lock I'd get more views. Its what all those Youtube celeberties do, so why shouldn't it work on here?

So, 'bout time I posted a journal on the upcoming DS adventure, The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks. If you already haven't, I recommend you go watch the trailer. I'll post a link in the doblido. Oh, that's right! This isn't Youtube! It's a DA journal. I'll just post a link here, that'll lead to Youtube [link]

Anyways, on with the show, I mean journal. I would like to first point out the E10+ rating. What? That's right, E10+. I know its not much but it does make Spirit Tracks the second Zelda game to not be E. What does that mean for the game? Well, it means that its probably got a darker story. Heck, in the first fifteen minutes Zelda DIES, which if you've seen the trailer you would know. So know the title character is dead. Now Ganondorf has no one to capture and therefore sits out this time. Of course, that's what we thought for Twilight Princess now, isn't it?

Well, with Zelda out of the... I don't know. The trailer doesn't reveal what Link does except faint while watching the princess's body being taken away. Then we discover that Zelda turns into a ghost, witch only Link can see. Already Spirit Tracks has a fresh new story that The Legend of Zelda deserves every now and then. Plus now haters can't complain about the lack of originality (oh when will they see OoT's innovation and overall awesomeness?). So Zelda is a ghost and now follows Link on his travels. I could make a Battlestar Galactica reference here, but nobody would frackin' understand (haha, did you get it? I guess not...).

So now Zelda is a full-time side kick. She's now gracing the same path as Navi... Okay, that wasn't a good example. But still, some great characters come out of this, Midna being the most popular. Oh, but there's a twist that many lack. Unlike Navi or Ezlo, Zelda is helpful. "What?!" You say. Yes, Zelda can take over Phantoms, those pesky enemies from Phantom Hourglass. Boy, I never thought I'd be happy to see one again! So now she can attack enemies (rats being the exceptions, probably bats too) and walk in lava and through the fire and the flames as she carries on her shield Link. Oh, darn. Wrong crowd again. I doubt too many people here will get the... what's the band called? Their on Guitar Hero. Anyways, Zelda is helpful. This being said, maybe a Legend of Zelda game where Link doesn't have someone following him around might be a nice change. Sometimes breaking a formula works out for the best, just not too much (Majora's Mask). Alright, continuing. Bet you guys thought I would stop.

What else is there? Ah, yes. The trains. I'm starting to fear that the Zelda series is going to go high-tech on us like Final FANTASY (seriously, waaaaay too far ahead for a magical journey, especially when the first game was supposed to be the final). All kidding aside (you did know I was joking, right?), I think the train system could workout. However, I'm interested in how we`ll still get to explore strange new lands, or New Hyrule in this case. While I said I don't mind breaking the formula somewhat, as long as they include something to make up for it like in the best, I think stripping Zelda of exploration is stripping it of its core. But then again, a great story can make up for missing elements in a franchise. Star Trek did away with starships and exploring in Deep Space Nine, but the stories of each episode along with great characters made it my favorite. Plus it wasn`t incredibly cheesy and had some great space battles. Actually, the more recent Metroid games, starting with Prime, gave you the location of the next upgrade. It did away with senseless running around that made it so great in the first place. No one`s complaining. However, Zelda fans can be quiet annoying. Some refuse to like Wind Waker, the best Zelda game in the 21st century, because it's Cel-shaded (cartoon, folks).

I got off topic there, but it gave me an idea for a blog post on IGN. So let me talk about the items. We get a whip, sorry, snake whip. There's actually this great drawing of Link in an Indiana Jones outfit in my favorites, if you actually want to go dig it out. But yeah, while the grappling hook did something similar, this does open up some new ideas while making things easier. Also now nobody will complain about he lack of a grappling hook. Am I getting its name right, grappling hook? It`s more of a claw, isn't it? So there's that, and there's also a leaf-fan. That's the best I can describe it. It's a fan made out of leaves that shoots wind by blowing into the microphone. It sounds like it could get annoying, constantly blowing at your DS. But Nintendo will make it work, I know it. Disregarding allowing the CDi Phillips Zelda games to even be produced.

Well, that's all that I can think of. Besides, I'm sure you're tired of reading. And if you are still reading this then I congratulate you. I kind be quiet at times (not so much these days) but I sure know how to talk. Just not pronounciate. Or spell. Well, I guess you want me to shut up now. But five lines (to me) in a paragraph seems a little week by the time I'm writing this. So I`m going to just keep on talking until- oh! Six lines, good enough. I'll shut up now.

Wow, as soon as I posted this, all the text got smaller. Okay, now I will shut up. No more edits.

So THAT'S how you'd say it. I've honestly been wondering about that. Kind of like how on here you say "thanks for the fav(e)."

Anyways, no problem.
